Students took the final The Catcher in the Rye quiz, discussed chps. 25 & 26, and were reminded of Friday's test. Make sure you know your authors! We then corrected a few sentences on the board. We finished reading "Winter Dreams." Students will spend the rest of the week doing the sequence of events and sensory details activities for "Winter Dreams" and the analysis paper for The Catcher in the Rye -- all of which I will go over on Thursday. Finally, we learned about Jack London and began to read his short story "To Build a Fire" in which students were given a Cause & Effect worksheet that they will have to complete once we've finished the story. Class began with a quiz on chps. 3 and 4 of A Separate Peace. Students were assigned to read chps. 5 and 6 for Wednesday. Students then did personality presentations, followed by the wildcat warmup that consisted of students correcting two sentences on the board and doing the last worksheet on Author's Purpose. Students practiced corrrecting sentences with grammatical errors. We also did pgs. 31-33 on Author's Purpose as part of the wildcat warmup. Students finished taking an notes remaining on Unit 4 (1880-1910). Students then read about Kate Chopin in the literature book and discussed the differences between internal and external conflict. Students were also given a handout in preparation for "The Story of an Hour" that details with identifying conflicts in the short story. We then listened to and read along with the story and discussed questions about the story when finished. Students will complete the handout on Tuesday after Personality Presentations. *Students must read chps. 3 & 4 of A Separate Peace and take a quiz on them first thing Tuesday. Students did the wildcat warmup on Author's Purpose and finished correcting the grammar taken from the Intro. on A Separate Peace. Students then took notes on A Separate Peace, read the Intro. handout on the novel, and were told to read chps. 1 & 2 for homework because they will be quizzed when we return to school on Monday (No school on Thursday or Friday due to chance of snow.) We then discussed answers about society and the way it affects people, we looked at the Unit 4 timeline and pictures that represent things mentioned on the timeline. We will finish taking notes about 1880-1910 on Monday and begin "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin in the literature book. Class IntroductionTuesday, Jan. 5:
Students were assigned seats and followed along as we read the course syllabus. Students were shown a Personality Presentation demonstration and assigned to give their own presentation either next Tuesday or Wednesday. Check with me to see which day you are scheduled to give your presentation and for instructions. We finished class by doing a Wildcat Warmup and introducing Unit 4 in the Literature book.
